Sunbury
and Shepperton Against Gravel Extraction - SSAGE
SSAGE was formed in February 2005. Our objective was
to prevent the designation and development of Vicarage Farm and Watersplash
Farm as sites for gravel extraction.
Whilst Vicarage Farm was removed from the proposed plan, Watersplash
Farm is still included.

Letters of objection campaign
Over
2,000 letters of objection were received by
Surrey County Council. This was confirmed to us in a letter from Richard
Shaw, Chief Executive of Surrey County Council.

Workshop of Community Representatives
SSAGE
and LOSRA were amongst local groups represented at two workshops organised by Surrey County Council and hosted by the
Environment Council in July 2005. A follow-up meeting including a visit to the two sites was held.

A preliminary technical assessment
of the sites was carried out between August and December 2005.
March 2006
Decision by Executive Committe for Preferred Options
for Development
3 March
- Confirmation of Surrey County Council’s preferred options
for gravel extraction.

Watersplash Farm in Fordbridge Road - INCLUDED

At this meeting, the Council’s executive committee will discuss the
options and decide whether to endorse the preferred options recommended by their
officers.
April - June 2006
Consultation and Exhibition
A six week consultation on the draft minerals plan (preferred
options) took place between April and June 2006.
SSAGE submitted an in-depth response to the consutation including a report
from Aqua Terra, an independent hydrologist. The report highlights a number of issues for consideration
and is available on request.
